Clean- Up Campaign at Vagamon

21st September 2010.

Plan @ Earth, NGO working for the environment together with student volunteers of the SWAN, the Nature club of FISAT conducted a clean-up campaign at the picturesque spot Vagamon in Idukki District.

Vagammon famous for its green hills, meadows, tea estates and pine forests has emerged as a favourite tourist destination in the recent years. But this untouched spot has now become a plastic infested nucleus. Plastic bottles, food boxes, disposable plates and cups dot the roadsides, hill slopes and the pine forests.

As a first step to make this heavenly spot litter free, 50 student volunteers from FISAT under the leadership of Mr. E G Anoop, Mr. Vishal V Pillai and Mr. Donit Abraham came to the spot and a clean up drive was done. The volume of waste was astounding. Together they could collect more than 600 plastic bottles from the pine forest alone. All the plastic waste that was collected was brought back to be recycled under the Wealth out of Waste (WOW) initiative of ITC

The example set forward by the members of the SWAN club (Sanguine Workers and Admirers of Nature) of FISAT needs to be emulated by students of other colleges.
